Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Video Games

'Resident Evil 3' is a survival horror video game developed by Capcom. Released in 1999 for the original Sony PlayStation console, it is a direct sequel to the first two Resident Evil games and continues the same story.

'Resident Evil 3,' similar to its predecessors, involves exploring a large environment, solving puzzles, and fighting zombies and other monsters. The story follows the adventures of Jill Valentine, a counterterrorism officer who becomes embroiled in a zombie plague outbreak engineered by the mysterious Umbrella Corporation. For 'Resident Evil 3,' Capcom created a game that is more action-oriented than its predecessors. Rather than relying on pure horror, the game has a faster pace, features tougher enemies and has a larger city map for Raccoon City. Adding to the tension, the player is stalked by a large predator named Nemesis, from which he or she must escape at predetermined intervals. The player can interact with objects in the environment to defeat enemies.

'Resident Evil 3' features a combination of 3D models and pre-rendered backgrounds. This means the characters and enemies themselves are fully 3D, but the environments are composed of two-dimensional art rendered on a computer workstation. This affects how the game is played. Because the backgrounds are 2D, the camera angle must remain fixed. Every time you leave the edge of the screen, the camera angle shifts to a new place. Two-dimensional pre-rendered backgrounds were commonly used during the PlayStation era because they offered higher graphical fidelity than the system itself was capable of generating in 3D at the time. Because the backgrounds were simply flat 2D art, they were much less computationally expensive to generate than actual 3D, although the camera angle had to remain fixed to maintain the illusion that it was a fully 3D environment.

Yes, once you complete the main story, a new minigame called 'The Mercenaries: Operation Mad Jackal' is unlocked. This is like a timed trial mode in which you must traverse the entire city with limited resources before the clock runs out. The game also features alternate costumes and epilogue files, which explain what happened to the characters after the main story ended.

Yes, the game received a PC version and a Dreamcast version in 2000 around the same time the original was released. In 2003 the Nintendo GameCube received a straight port of Nemesis, and in 2008, an emulated version of Nemesis was released on the PlayStation Portable system.

Yes, original PlayStation games are backwards compatible with all models of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, although not the PlayStation 4. You can simply insert the original disc into the console, which will recognize it and play it automatically.
